Kunio Yanagita, considered the father of Japanese folklore studies, self-published "Tono Monogatari" in 1910, a collection of tales and legends from the Tono region of Iwate Prefecture. Daido Moriyama, having read it in his teens and considering Tono his "spiritual hometown," visited and photographed the area in the mid-70s.
"Tono 2014" is a commemorative collection by Daido Moriyama, published in conjunction with the Canon Gallery S 100th Anniversary Photo Exhibition "Tono 2014." It features 61 black and white and color photographs taken during his return to Tono after 40 years. Published in a limited edition of 900 copies, this book is a rare "Artist's Proof (A.P.)" copy, separate from the limited edition, with the artist's quality check and final proof approval, and bearing the "Artist's Proof" stamp (as seen in the last image).
